Amazon Kindle Fire

Amazon finally unveiled their answer to the Ipad craze, officially demonstrating their new tablet, called the Amazon Kindle Fire. Here are our first impressions and a proper review of the device. Is it a real Ipad killer? First of all the answer is: No. Even though the the price is way below what the Ipad currently costs, the type of functionality the Kindle Fire delivers is not as sophisticated as the the Ipad. It’s a 7-inch screen with a highly modified Android system running beneath it, up to the point where you… Read the full review

Amazon Kindle Touch

Together with the Amazon Kindle Fire , Amazon also unveiled the touch version of the Kindle, called simply the Amazon Kindle Touch. At an attractive price point (check here for the latest price), the Kindle touch comes with everything the “normal” Kindle E-Reader offers, but adds the benefit of a touchscreen. We say “benefit”, but playing around the with the device shows that the Kindle keyboard is actually not something we ever thought was in the way, quite the opposite. Now, with only one button left, many… Read the full review

Apple IPad (incl. Video)

The Apple IPad tries to be a bit of everything, which is why we also regard it as an E-Reader, even though of course it is much more than that. Depending on where you stand in your opinion about Apple you were either counting the days to the official announcement OR you were tired of the hype about yet another Apple product, however one thing you cannot deny is the fact that the Ipad is just beautiful to look at. However (And this is the first however, followed by some more below), as it tries to be everything at the… Read the full review

Skiff Reader

The Skiff Reader has been the big head turner at the CES 2010, and rightly so. It’s flexible, great to look at and probably has the most intuative user handling we have ever seen. Just think interactive newspaper and you get the picture. Here is a review, mostly from engadget, which gives you an idea about just how beautiful it is. We had a chance to sit down with the team to go hands-on with the 11.5-inch e-Reader. As a device, the near final prototype was big pushing an impressive 1,600 x 1,200 resolution — enough to… Read the full review

SKYTEX Primer

The Skytex Primer is the purest E-Reader we have come across since the Kindle and it comes with a couple of things the Kindle is still struggling with. First, it has a colour display which might be something users are looking for right now, especially those who are after a full PDF reader or want their Newspapers with colour pictures in it. Secondly it has a really good text-to-speech functionality, which the Kindle also has but with a somewhat weaker quality level. Here is an excerpt from Skytex’ press release. Yes, it’s… Read the full review

JWF eReader-4000

. The JWF eReader-4000 is an E-reader currently reserved for UK users. It’s an incredibly affordable eReader with a nice design, user interface, vivid 7″ colour screen, and the opportunity to expand the already generous 4GB memory capacity via a Micro SD card slot (max. 16GB expandable). At first look – the JWF appears to be a great looking eReader just like all the others on the market. Not until you switch it on is when you notice the difference. You are greeted by a crisp looking colour menu, with a vast array of content. The… Read the full review

Sony PRS-T1

E-Reader - Kindle - Sony PRS-T1The PRS-T1 is Sony´s weapon of choice against the new Amazon Kindle, and on first glance the e-reader is very similar to the Kindle. The casing looks high quality, a bit more robust that the Kindle, and the screen is sleek and, due to this being a touchscreen, dominates the front of the device. One advantage when using the Sony vs. the Kindle is the speed of the display: It´s much faster that the Kindle, which takes maybe half a second to build new screens when you for example turn the page while reading. And this… Read the full review

EnTourage eDGe

Yes, that is really how they want you to write it: The enTourage eDGe™ (hm…) is the world’s first dualbook, combining the functions of an e-reader, netbook, notepad, and audio/video recorder and player in one. It’s a comprehensive device that lets you read e-books, surf the Internet, take digital notes, send emails and instant messages, watch movies and listen to music anywhere, at any time. This is nothing you’ve ever seen before!  However, we have to say the usability does not really come close to the Kindle. At… Read the full review

Viewsonic VEB 620

Viewsonic’s VEB E-Readers are up for graps now, of course over shadowed by the hype around the Apple IPad. This will make it extremely difficult for Viewsonic to get enough awareness out in order to make the new device a success, but if you are looking for a good E-Reader this might actually be the right device for you. ViewSonic’s latest eBook is a thin, light and versatile device measuring less than 11mm thin and weighting less than 0.26kg, that can be held comfortably in the palm of your hand. The ViewSonic eBook… Read the full review

Amazon Kindle (Ad supported)

. Amazon announced a Kindle version which will be ad supported and offered at a lower price point, showing ads of companies like Visa or Buick on the Home screen and when the screen saver is turned on.The Hardware itself will be unchanged, however since the ads will be likely to alter the user experience we are devoting a separate post for this to gather your comments and opinions. The Kindle E-Reader is still one of the best dedicated E-Readers out there, so it goes without saying that it is a smart move to lower the… Read the full review

Velocity Micro Cruz Reader

Velocity is a fairly new player in the E-Reader game and has come out with a very nice to look at, Android based E-Reader with a wealth of functions which are supposed to dwarf the Kindle series. With full support from the Borders book shop this E-Reader provides you with a colour, drag and drop book store to surf through and boosts a full colour user menu, which makes choosing a book a breeze. The only thing which we thought was negative was the somewhat small screen, which might push you towards the Kindle DX again…. Read the full review

Sharper Image Literati

Alright, let’s start with the verdict: This must be the worst E-Reader we have tested so far. But let’s start with the specs: The Literati runs on the Kobo platform, with the big difference that it has a colour screen and supports backlight, which in theory should make reading more enjoyable in the dark. Is it runs on the Kobo platform it is also connected to the Kobo bookstore, which currently boasts around 100.000 books plus a couple of free ones. We thought the main upside of the Literati was the design though, as it… Read the full review
