Barnes & Noble NOOK Reader (color)

Here we go: Barnes & Noble is trying to outperfom the Kindle competition by upgrading their Nook, which is now boosting a full color display and some other new features. We will have a list of features below but the main question we have is B&N was able to put a stop to some of the negative things that were mentioned in the “Normal” Nook review, such as multiple shut-downs of the device for no apparent reason or the lack of costumer service. As there are no comments on this from B&N… Read the full review

Apple IPad (incl. Video)

The Apple IPad tries to be a bit of everything, which is why we also regard it as an E-Reader, even though of course it is much more than that. Depending on where you stand in your opinion about Apple you were either counting the days to the official announcement OR you were tired of the hype about yet another Apple product, however one thing you cannot deny is the fact that the Ipad is just beautiful to look at. However (And this is the first however, followed by some more below), as it tries to be everything at the… Read the full review

SKYTEX Primer

The Skytex Primer is the purest E-Reader we have come across since the Kindle and it comes with a couple of things the Kindle is still struggling with. First, it has a colour display which might be something users are looking for right now, especially those who are after a full PDF reader or want their Newspapers with colour pictures in it. Secondly it has a really good text-to-speech functionality, which the Kindle also has but with a somewhat weaker quality level. Here is an excerpt from Skytex’ press release. Yes, it’s… Read the full review

JWF eReader-4000

. The JWF eReader-4000 is an E-reader currently reserved for UK users. It’s an incredibly affordable eReader with a nice design, user interface, vivid 7″ colour screen, and the opportunity to expand the already generous 4GB memory capacity via a Micro SD card slot (max. 16GB expandable). At first look – the JWF appears to be a great looking eReader just like all the others on the market. Not until you switch it on is when you notice the difference. You are greeted by a crisp looking colour menu, with a vast array of content. The… Read the full review

Pandigital Novel

The Pandigital Novel has been around for a while now and it seems as if it has find its niche. With a very comfortable screen size of 7 inches and a 800×600 resolution this cute little reader is mostly appealing towards free-time readers and those people who are looking for a compromise between the Kindle and the IPad, meaning a colour screen, pure E-Reader. It also comes at an affordable price and what sets it apart from the Kindle series is its night reading capability, which of course come at the price of shorter… Read the full review

Samsung Galaxy Tab

The Samsung Galaxy Tab is certainly not your usual E-Reader, for one because it is one of the smallest tablets in the market. It reminds more of a giant Smartphone. However, there certainly is a niche for this, especially when it comes to mobile browsing and also reading works quite well on the device, especially if you are just looking for a device to use on the go or on your way to work. The Samsung Galaxy Tab is the first major tablet release since the Apple iPad launched. It’s been a long time coming, too. The Galaxy… Read the full review

Sony PRS-T1

E-Reader - Kindle - Sony PRS-T1The PRS-T1 is Sony´s weapon of choice against the new Amazon Kindle, and on first glance the e-reader is very similar to the Kindle. The casing looks high quality, a bit more robust that the Kindle, and the screen is sleek and, due to this being a touchscreen, dominates the front of the device. One advantage when using the Sony vs. the Kindle is the speed of the display: It´s much faster that the Kindle, which takes maybe half a second to build new screens when you for example turn the page while reading. And this… Read the full review

BeBook Neo

From Endless Ideas in the Netherlands comes the new edition of their BeBook device, which is called Neo and is supposed to be the binding factor between the Kobo and the Kindle. Visually very much alike, there are some important differences between the three E-Readers, which you can already read from the press release. After our successful models ‘BeBook One’ and the pocket sized ‘BeBook Mini’ we collected suggestions from our customers and packed them into a new attractive eReader. The BeBook Neo is using the latest… Read the full review

Textr E-Reader

The Textr E-Reader is a product of the German, Berlin based start-up company Textr GmbH and is available as of December 2009. The specifications for this Reader read quite impressive, while the design of the device might be able to overtake the Kindle in simplicity and wow-factor. Here are the specifics for the new Reader, which will be available in the German speaking part of Europe for a start, before probably being roled out to the rest of Europe and other markets. eInk Vizplex 6″ display at 600×800 pixels 151mm… Read the full review

IRiver Story

While not exactly a household name, iRiver can usually be relied upon to cook up a quality product that’s a little different from the norm. Entering the e-book reader market with the Story, this all-white device looks a lot like Amazon’s Kindle. On more careful inspection its obvious the similarities are simply down to the colour and the presence of a full Qwerty keyboard below the 6in electronic paper screen, rather than any shared heritage. At 127 x 203.5 x 9.4mm and weighing 284g the Story is par for the e-book reader… Read the full review

Velocity Micro Cruz Reader

Velocity is a fairly new player in the E-Reader game and has come out with a very nice to look at, Android based E-Reader with a wealth of functions which are supposed to dwarf the Kindle series. With full support from the Borders book shop this E-Reader provides you with a colour, drag and drop book store to surf through and boosts a full colour user menu, which makes choosing a book a breeze. The only thing which we thought was negative was the somewhat small screen, which might push you towards the Kindle DX again…. Read the full review

Hanvon N516

The Hanvon N516 is already one of the older generation E-Readers, as far as you can say that about any Reader in the market. Already followed by the N518, the design is comparable whereas the screen size and measurements have been improved with the latest edition. However if you are interested in a simple, cheap device without the benefits of a Kindle, this might be an option to look into as the prices for this E-Reader are on the low side compared to its younger competitors. Emantic 7-inch E-Reader

. The Emantic Ereader has been on the market for a while now but has been reduced in price only recently (check here for current price), making it a viable alternative for people around the world who are looking for a cheap but capable Ereader. Highlights include a Micro SD slot, which makes exchanging Ebooks and other files an easy thing, as well as a radio and PM3 player function. Apple iPad 3

iPad 3        It´s here! The iPad 3 has arrived and we had a “hands-on” with it to give you some impressions… Note: Even though the new iPad doesn´t have an official name (It´s not the iPad HD as we thought at least), we are going to call it the iPad 3 for simplicity. The first thing we wanted to check when we had the chance to play around with it was the size and the weight, which, given that the display is not in full retina resolution, we thought would be bigger and heavier that before…. Herotab C8

The Herotab is an Android tablet which is supposed to double as an E-reader through the Kindle Android app. The problems we have seen with this setup are obvious: 1.) The Kindle App obviously uses the screen the tablet provides, not the Kindle E-ink display which is made for E-reading and nothing but E-reading. Reading a book on a computer or tablet screen is simply awful when you do it over an extended period of time. 2.) The app also, at least in our opinion, is not as quick in loading books and… Read the full review
